CFB DeptHITS: Thursday, September 12
A look at the news coming out of our depth chart updates heading into week three. Get all caught up here.
We make hundreds of tweaks and edits to our 134 live depth charts for all FBS schools. These tweaks to the depth chart and playing time projections feed our ratings/rankings system that are ever-changing based on what we are seeing. We pull out some of the more impactful changes from the last 24 hours for your enjoyment…so, enjoy!
Virginia Tech ::: RB Bhayshul Tuten was observed in a non-contact jersey in practice. LB Jayden McDonald is in street clothes. No exact injury information provided.
Duke ::: RB Jaquez Moore is going to be a game-time decision for this weeks game against UConn. He was injured in week two against Northwestern after just three carries.
USC ::: Some injury updates from Lincoln Riley include exercising caution with CB Jaylin Smith; backup C Kilian O'Connor not expected to be long-term & LB Mason Cobb progressing.
Oregon ::: WR Gary Bryant Jr. is not practicing; thus moving him to "doubtful" for week 3.
Iowa ::: RB Jaziun Patterson is deemed "ready to go" for week three and has had a good week a practice. We should see him involved on Saturday against Troy.
Arkansas ::: Injury updates in the secondary for the Razorbacks - including, Jaylon Braxton, Marquise Robinson and Hudson Clark (doubtful).
Middle Tennessee ::: RB Frank Peasant was hurt in week two. The only update we can go on at this point is that he is not included on the pre-week 3 depth chart. Putting him and fellow RB Jekail Middlebrook is also doubtful to play.
Wake Forest ::: DL Jasheen Davis updated to doubtful to play week three. He didn't suit up last week either and is an important piece of this defense.
West Virginia ::: Removed reserve DL Zachariah Keith from the depth chart as he is no longer a part of the program.
|||||| MORE NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS
Troy: DL/LB Jah-Mal Williams played 37 snaps in week one but did not appear in week two; possible injury here but haven’t seen anything to confirm.
Georgia Southern: S Justin Meyers played 41 snaps week one and didn’t play week two. Assuming an injury and listing as questionable.
UConn: CB Malcolm Bell sat out week two after playing 50 defensive snaps in week one. Assuming an injury and listing him as questionable for week three.
Western Michigan: RB Jalen Buckley is one of those under-the-radar G5 impact injuries that could affect the game. We have not seen any updates on his availability, but the MAC does put out an availability report; so we’ll keep an eye out for that. The Broncos has Bethune-Cookman and then a bye so resting their star running back may be an option.
Jacksonville State: DB J-Rock Swain is the “most impactful” player by the head coaches standards. He limped off a week ago and it didn’t look good. We are trying to find an update on his status for week three; but nothing yet. Leaving a questionable until we do.
Ole Miss WR Jordan Watkins remains very questionable to play and it’s confirmed that he is working back and may be getting close by this quote from Lane Kiffin on Monday.
LSU Availability Report released:
WR Kyren Lacy does not show up on the report; appears good to go.
DE Princeton Malbrue confirmed out again
Starting S Jordan Allen shows up as “questionable”
DL Da’Shawn Womack shows up as “questionable” - we have him projected for 10-15 snaps in the rotation.
LB West Weeks shows up as “questionable” - similar playing time projection as Womack (⅕ snaps)
Three reserves were listed as “out” including, OL Kobe Roberts, LB Jake Ibieta and DE CJ Jackson
South Carolina Availability Report released:
WR Gage Larvadain shows up for the first time indicating he is dealing with something. He’s listed as questionable and has not made much of an impact as we all expected in the early going. So, it may be injury related?
Second-string RG Trovon Baugh is listed as questionable and could slightly impact offensive line depth.
Texas A&M Availability Report released:
WR Jahdae Walker and RB EJ Smith are removed and ready to roll.
LB Scooby Williams is “questionable” and would be a impact loss on the defense if he is not able to suit up.
Florida Availability Report released:
CB Ja’Keem Jackson is listed as “out” unexpectedly. He has played 86 snaps this season at CB and is a loss.
WR Eugene Wilson III surprisingly lands as “questionable” on the report. This is one worth tracking.
EDGE T.J. Searcy is added with a “questionable” tag as well. Another impact player who, if not able to go, will impact things negatively.
DL Joey Slackman is not on the report and appears ready to suit up for the Gators against Texas A&M.
Programming Note: We will be releasing our (CFBDm) Model recap article and any plays for tonight and Friday later on this afternoon. Keep an eye out for that. If you want to get caught up on the building of this winning model, you can do so by reading from our archives, starting here:
