We make hundreds of tweaks and adjustments to the 134 live depth charts at CFBDepth.com — this feature is designed to pull out the context around the most impactful of those updates. Today, we have a lot of player availability updates and a couple more portal announcements. We’ll also get you links to the first all-inclusive ‘Game Cards’ for the Tuesday action kicking off this final regular season week 14. Enjoy!
Texas ::: We received a much anticipated update on QB Quinn Ewers and his ankle injury suffered in week 13. The news is that he appears to be fine and was back at practice today (Monday). We'll continue to monitor this situation, but sure looks like he'll be good to go against Texas A&M come Saturday as the Longhorns look to lock up a spot in the SEC title game.
Iowa ::: QB Cade McNamara is not included on the week 14 depth chart and it appears the Hawkeyes will roll with Jackson Stratton as the starter and Marco Lainez as the backup again. It worked well in week 13's easy win over Maryland. Iowa hosts Nebraska in the finale of the regular season.
Penn State ::: Starting RT Anthony Donkoh suffered a longer-term injury in week 13. Nolan Rucci seems like the most logical replacement for him, having done so earlier this year, playing over 230+ snaps at the posiiton this season and seems to hold his own, though is a big downgrade from Donkoh.
Also, the Nittany Lions defense will look for answers after getting word that Alonzo Ford is out for an extended period of time. If week 13 were any indication it looks to be Coziah Izzard who will see an uptick in playing time and that is not a bad thing. Izzard has been solid, though not quite to Ford's capacity at this time.
Alabama ::: LB Deontae Lawson's injury is, in fact, season ending. This leaves a big hole in the Alabama defense. Expect a three-man rotation at linebacker between Jihaad Campbell, Qua Russaw and Justin Jefferson going forward.
Georgia ::: Kirby Smart lets us know that two ailing wide receivers, Dillon Bell and Anthony Evans Jr. are likely to be able to return to the field for week 14 against Georgia Tech. Bell is likely the second option behind only Dominic Lovett at this point. Evans is a bit further down the depth chart, but still can contribute when called upon. RB Roderick Robinson remains 'day-to-day' but may be getting closer to joining the rotation in the backfield.
Michigan ::: Update on star TE Colston Loveland is that he is 'trending in a good direction' early in preparations for week 14. This is certainly not a deeming of a clean bill of health, but it's better than tranding in the wrong direction, so we'll take it. Michigan is prepping for the showdown with Ohio State in Columbus.
Wyoming ::: QB Kaden Anderson was banged up in the Cowboys loss to Boise State in week 13; he is now looking questionable to doubtful to play in the finale. Evan Svoboda would return to the starting job that he lost to Anderson if he is unable to play.
Nebraska ::: WR Malachi Coleman will enter the portal after his first two seasons didn't result in much playing time, in fact, he played a lot more in his true freshman season than he did with this new regime in town. He'll take his redshirt and find a new home with a full four years of eligibility. He is a former 4-star recruit out of Lincoln, NE.
Fresno State ::: RB Bryson Donelson was enjoying a fine game in week 13 before getting his leg stuck in the turf and getting hurt. Head coach Tim Skipper said "hopefully he can go" indicating a game-time call for him in week 14 at UCLA.
Northern Illinois ::: The chances we see RB Antario Brown in week 14 are slim as he is left off the depth chart for the finale against Central Michigan.
West Virginia ::: Head coach Neal Brown updated the injury statuses for four key players, announcing them all out for the season - including the Bowl appearance. This list includes: WR Jaden Bray, S Aubrey Burks, CB Ayden Garnes and WR Traylon Ray.
Kansas State ::: RB Dylan Edwards was close to returning in week 13. He was 'begging' to play earlier in the week but the staff chose to play it safe. Now, heading into week 14, he has been upgraded to a 'good chance' to play according to head coach Chris Kleiman.
Ohio ::: WR Coleman Owen was hurt in week 13 and is said to be a true game-time call heading into week 14. The Bobcats will take on Ball State on Saturday in their regular season finale. Owen is their top receiver.
Utah ::: QB Isaac Wilson's injury suffered in week 13 will keep him out for week 14 against UCF in Orlando. This looks like Luke Bottari's team going forward after injuries have knocked out all of the other options (including Wilson, Cam Rising, Brandon Rose and Sam Huard).
Pittsburgh :::: The update on QB Eli Holstein is that his injury is not season-ending despite looking really bad in real-time during week 13. We'll keep an eye on this as we move closer to the week 13 matchup at Boston College.
Kentucky ::: QB Cutter Boley will maintain the starter tag for the Wildcats this week in a rivalry game against Louisville. He'll take the job away from Brock Vandagriff, who started against Texas, struggle and gave way to Boley who went 10/18 for 160 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. HC Mark Stoops wants to see what he has in Boley and this will be another measuring stick in the final regular season week.
Bowling Green ::: TE Harold Fannin Jr. was hurt in week 13 and did not return. News came out today that he will be a true game-time decision for the Falcons. He is a major part of the passing attack, garnering 35% of the targets when healthy.
Florida State ::: QB Luke Kromenhoek will get another start in week 14 against Florida. He got the call against Charleston Southern and performed well. Obviously, this will be quite a different level of a test for the true freshman.
North Carolina ::: Tar Heels updates include WR Nate McCollum, who missed week 13 will return to practice, along with RB Darwin Barlow heading into prep for the final regular season week. TE Bryson Nesbit will remain out. WR JJ Jones, who was banged up pretty good in the week 13 game will be monitored leading up (read: questionable).
