CFB DeptHITS: Wednesday, October 30
A look at the 'need to knows' from the news released over the past 24 hours most impacting depth charts and week ten games.
We make hundreds of tweaks and adjustments to the live depth charts at CFBDepth.com — this feature is designed to pull out the top news and provide you with a little context around the news of the day. Today, we’ll hit on these and provide links to our ‘game cards’ for the early games on Saturday for week ten.
Texas Tech ::: QB Behren Morton appears to have been upgraded to 'probable' for week ten after having a really good practice on Tuesday.
Utah ::: WR Money Parks suffered a season-ending injury and will miss the reset of the campaign. Parks was their second-leading receiver behind only Dorian Singer and one of the few reliable weapons on offense. This is not what the struggling Utes offense needs at this point.
Oregon ::: DL Jordan Burch and TE Terrance Ferguson were both seen participating in practice Tuesday. Both are nursing injuries -- Burch has missed three straight games and Ferguson has missed two with a recent appendectomy.
Iowa ::: WR Reece Vander Zee and TE Addison Ostrenga are both announced out this week. For Vander Zee, he will miss due to an injury suffered last week. Ostrenga will miss his fourth straight contest in week 10. QB Cade McNamara, who lost the starting job to Brendan Sullivan, is not available as the backup due to injury himself.
Iowa State ::: Some updates to long-term injuries for the Cylones includes TE Benjamin Brahmer avoiding a major injury and could 'potentially' return as early as this week. LBs Caleb Bacon and Carson Willich are looking more like a December/January timeframe to get back on the field.
South Carolina ::: WR Jared Brown is expected to make his return week 10 against A&M. He is the leading receiver when healthy and brings a reliable presence operating mainly out of the slot.
Florida Atlantic ::: HC Tom Herman says QB Cam Fancher is 'good to go' for week ten against USF. He is hopeful to get back a pair of slot receivers as both Milan Tucker and Omari Hayes are close to making their return after the bye week.
South Florida ::: QB Byrum Brown is very questionable to play and word is that Bryce Archie is taking first team reps in practice as of Tuesday. We will track this closely.
Memphis ::: Both RB Greg Desrosiers Jr. and Brandon Thomas' status remains 'up in the air' for week ten, while starter (and current Bellcow) Mario Anderson Jr. and backup MaKari Bodiford are "good to go" according to HC Ryan Silverfield.
Ohio State ::: LT Zen Michalski was carted off with an injury against Nebraska in week nine. He has not been ruled out for week ten, though according to Ryan Day. He is very questionable.
Arkansas ::: The plan is to get a redshirt on LG Patrick Kutas, who has battled injuries all season long. He can play in three of the last four games to be eligible and the belief is that it's the Louisiana Tech game (week 13) that will be the target for him to sit.
Arizona State ::: RB Raleek Brown made a brief return to the field but his injuries are lingering enough to shut him down, take a medical redshirt and hopefully get healthy for the first time in his career in 2025.
Oklahoma ::: Brent Venables confirms that CB Gentry Williams is out for the season after having missed every game since his injury in week two. He mentioned that DBs Jacobe Johnson, Dez Malone and Makari Vickers are all 'banged up' and depth is really being tested in the secondary.
Clemson ::: WR Tyler Brown remains 'week-to-week' and is not ready for Louisville in week ten. His ankle injury suffered in week two continues to linger.
Virginia Tech ::: An update on RB Bhayshul Tuten's status and his teammate was right. He is probable to play week ten at Syracuse. LT Xavier Chaplin is also considered 'probable' despite a couple of separate in-game injuries in week nine.
SMU ::: Mustangs injury updates include: QB Kevin Jennings is "questionable" for week ten. DL Jonathan Jefferson should be a "go" and WR Jake Bailey is closer to doubtful than questionable at this point according to Lashlee.
Penn State ::: DE Dani Dennis-Sutton could end up being a game-time decision after having to leave the week nine game against Wisconsin.
West Virginia ::: Neal Brown has fired Defensive Coordinator Jordan Lesley. Linebackers coach Jeff Koonz will take over as DC on an interim basis for the rest of the season.
Georgia Tech ::: The Yellow Jackets have parted ways with Associate Head Coach and Special Teams Coordinator Ricky Brumfield. He did not travel to their last game and now we know why. Senior Advisor Tim Salem will take over duties running the Special Teams for the remainder of 2024.
